Walking in water the last day in Zion

First, a confession - I emailed someone on my team to see how a project was going and if a critical decision was made. I had told myself I shouldn't do it but it was like I was standing in Top Pot Donuts, staring at the Apple Fritters and saying, if I only eat two, no one will know. At least I didn't check email, although the urge to do so is almost killing me.

It was our last day in Zion and then on to Vegas for a few days before we head home. We decided to do the Narrows hike, which is about a mile in on a trail and then as far as you brave to go wading in the Virgin River. The kids complained the entire time until we got to the river. We began our journey in the water and they couldn't get enough of it. For those of us with older ankles and less coordination, not falling face first into the freezing water was a challenge.

There were parts where we were waist deep in the water and it was hard to tell if there was a drop off or not. We took our time, ate all of our snacks in the fist 30 minutes, and drank most of our water. Rebecca and I assumed the kids would only want to go a short bit. We were completely wrong. At least there were some dry places to climb up on and rest.

The views inside the canyon/valley were amazing. You would look straight up at these walls of rocks that seemed to go on forever. I was a bit nervous about a rouge rock coming down, but then I realized there was a higher probability of me getting bit by a cute squirrel (they were all over the place) than this happening.

What I learned today: You should never underestimate your children. When you think they will struggle with something and you want to help them, sometimes it is better to step back and see how they do. They will surprise you.

What I appreciated about the day: The four of us curling up on the bed watching game shows. They can be super entertaining and we can all play along - a common goal is always a win.
